Dambulla, Sigiriya,
\nPolonnaruwa &\u00a0Anudharapura<\/h2>\n

Sri Lanka\u2019s cultural triangle is famous for its archaeological and cultural
\nremains dating back more than 2500 years ago. Anuradhapura was the
\nfirst capital; Polonnaruwa, World Heritage Site and a medieval gem\u00a0with fantastically preserved monuments; Sigiriya fortress carved into\u00a0the mountain and built for the defense against invasion; and Dambulla,\u00a0the center of Buddhism in Sri Lanka since the fourth century.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kandy<\/h2>\n

Kandy is known as the capital of the Highlands. It is located 115\u00a0kilometres from Colombo. The city is the heart of Buddhism because is\u00a0home of The Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of the most sacred places
\nof workship in the Buddhist Wold. It was declared a world Heritage\u00a0site by Unesco in 1988. The city is also known for its handicraft shops,\u00a0woodwork, silk and great jewelry.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Nuwara Eliya<\/h2>\n

With a pinturesque scenery and a moderate climate, Nuwara Eliya\u00a0in the heart of Sri Lanka, is considered the most important area of\u00a0production of tea in Sri Lanka. It is known as \u201cLittle England\u201d, and\u00a0was the favourite mountain station of the British during the period\u00a0of colonization. It is located about 1900 meters above sea level. In the\u00a0nearby Horton Plains National Park we can enjoy beautiful hiking\u00a0trails in a protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, between\u00a0mountain grasslands and cloud forest..<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Yala<\/h2>\n

The Yala National Park, also known as Ruhuna National Park, is home
\nto 215 species of birds, numerous mammals and one of the highest\u00a0densities of leopards in the world. The place is truly wild and is bathed\u00a0by the Indian Ocean, surrounded by jungle lagoons and rocky areas. It\u00a0is worth making a 4×4 safari around the park first thing in the morning\u00a0or early afternoon (when the animals are more active), looking for\u00a0elephants , wild buffalo, deer, peacocks…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Galle<\/h2>\n

Galle is located in the southwest of Sri Lanka, about 158 km from\u00a0Colombo. Galle was occupied by the Portuguese in the sixteenth century,\u00a0by the Dutch in the seventeenth century, and finally by the British in\u00a0the nineteenth century. All these cultures have left their marks on this\u00a0city. We recommend biking or walking around the area of the Dutch\u00a0fort, around its streets and its shops… within the walled area. The city\u00a0was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1988..<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Negombo\/Colombo<\/h2>\n

Colombo is the capital of Sri Lanka. It is a vibrant city with a mixture of
\nmodern architecture, colonial buildings and ruins. Due to its large harbour\u00a0and its strategic position along the East-Western sea trade routes, Colombo\u00a0was well known to traders 2,000 years ago. Our suggestion is to go around the\u00a0city by a tuk tuk to see its markets and narrow streets. Note that the most\u00a0important International airport is close to the fishing village of Negombo,\u00a0about an hour from the center of Colombo. Therefore, some of our programs\u00a0do not include a stay in the capital but in Negombo or alternatively starting\u00a0the trip in this coastal town.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
